Nadal claims third US Open title; Froome joins cycling greats with Vuelta victory

Froome wins Tour-Vuelta double

Chris Froome became only the third cyclist in the history of the sport after Jacques Anquetil in 1963 and Bernard Hinault in 1978 to win a double of the Tour de France and Vuelta in the same season.

Froome retained his 2 minute 15 second advantage over Vincenzo Nibali, as the two of them crossed the finish line at Madrid together.

A day after winning the punishing last mountain stage, Alberto Contador thoroughly enjoyed his final professional stage as he brought down the curtains on a glorious career.

Nadal eases past Anderson for 16th Grand Slam title

Rafael Nadal thumped Kevin Anderson in straight sets – 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 – to win his third US Open title and 16th Grand Slam overall.

Considering the run of poor form and difficulty with injuries that he had to endure in the past years, Nadal hailed 2017 as one of the best of his career.
